Interview with Ivan Sordo (Scooter in the City)
ScooterBlogger: What is your name how old are you and where are you from ?
Ivan: Ivan Sordo. I was born in the Philippines but raised (and still live) in San Francisco, California
ScooterBlogger: When did your love for scooters start ?
I got my first scooter over 20 years from a friend’s girlfriend. Honda Elite 80. Taught myself how to ride it. Didn’t really have a passion at the time. Just needed it for convenience to get around San Francisco. Didn’t know about Vespa’s or scooter clubs. It took me getting my SYM HD200 and Facebook to search out other riders. Found out there is a big scooter world out there.
ScooterBlogger: Are you in any club or do you ride solo ?
Ivan: I ride with (and VP) of the San Francisco Scooter Club but I also ride with other clubs when they have open events. For example: I rode with the „Post Modern Scooter Club“ last month. I was the only non-Vespa 🙂
Which is your favourite scooter model of all time?
To be honest I have always liked my little Honda Elite. The plastic bodies would eventually fall away (I had 3 of them over the years) but the engines never let me down.
ScooterBlogger: What was your best trip ever on a Scooter ?
Ivan: Best trip was the hardest. The Los Gatos Vespa Club has the annual „Three Peak Challenge“ Mt Hamilton (in San Jose), Mt Diablo (in the East Bay) and Mt Tamalpais (Marin County). Approximately 250 miles of riding around the San Francisco Bay Area. Not including the 50 miles me and my friend had to ride to San Jose to start the challenge! Long day 530a to 8p. I tend to be slow and cautious and of course I got lost but it was a heck of an adventure. I did that last year (2015). Might try again next year.
ScooterBlogger: Did you win any scooter prizes so far ?
Ivan: Oh heck no. Unless there is one for the slowest rider
ScooterBlogger: Please tell me the name of a scooter personality that should be interviewed on my blog !
Oh can think of three off the top of my head:
250 Superhero (Stephanie Yue) I can ask if she wants to be interviewed (I never want to assume) She has crossed the USA and into Mexico on her Vespa 250 GTS. Also a great artist.
The Wandering Wasp (Juvena Huang) Saved up for 3 years to travel on her Vespa PX200 from Singapore to Europe. Right now in Turkey.
Last but not least WorldVespa (Stergios Gogos) Left Greece on Vespa. Traveled through Africa and is now somewhere in South America.
ScooterBlogger: Thank you so much for this great Interview and always ride safe !
